Retail Giant Kaufland Expanding to France & Italy in 2025

Last week Kaufland announced that it will be expanding its marketplace to France and Italy by the end of the summer. This expansion will mark Kaufland’s 6th and 7th active countries within Europe, following the marketplaces successful launch in their home market, Germany, 4 years ago. With France and Italy being the third and fourth largest ecommerce markets in Europe, respectively, these launches represent a significant step in Kaufland’s ambition to become the largest European online platform.

Amongst the current influx and fast growth of international, low-priced marketplaces such as Alibaba, Temu, Shein and now Amazon Haul, Kaufland are carving out a niche for themselves as a European alternative – ‘from Europe, for Europe’. Rooted in Kaufland’s strict compliance with European regulations and guaranteed data and product safety for its customers.

Gerald Schönbucher, CEO of Kaufland e-commerce states: “Our commitment to quality and integrity ensures that our customers can shop with peace of mind, and that our retailers can sell successfully.”
This presents an attractive alternative for retailers who are finding it increasingly difficult to compete against cheaper Chinese alternatives on other marketplaces, whilst remaining profitable.
