Amazon Discontinues Popular Product Listing Feature

On January 20, 2025, Amazon ceased to support the 360-degree image experience on product detail pages. This development follows the announcement in December 2023 that no new 360-degree image uploads may be processed.

Instead, users may upload 3D models to their listings in certain categories, including home, furniture, consumer electronics, shoes and eye-wear; or utilise the View in Your Room or Virtual Try-On features.

View in 3D

The closest experience to the 360-degree image experience now available to shoppers is ‘View in 3D’. This feature enables customers to view all angles of a product and ‘intuitively pinch, zoom or rotate the 3D image on their device screen.’

Categories which support this feature include Shoes (all shoe types are supported in View in 3D), Eyewear, Home and Furniture, Beauty, Baby Products, Sports, Toys, Pets, Automotive, Electronics.

View in Your Room

Additionally, the View in Your Room experience is perfect for shoppers looking to make larger homeware purchases. Any products that can sit on a floor or table, or can be mounted to a vertical surface like a wall can be accommodated.

Using augmented-reality technology to scan the room, the feature accurately scales products to realistically gauge the size and proportions. Shoppers can even save layouts in their Amazon account's “Your Rooms” section.

AR Virtual Try-On

Customers using the mobile app can also try on shoes and eyewear with Amazon’s augmented-reality ‘Try-On’ feature, which allows users to see how the products would appear. The footwear feature allows a view from above, whilst the optical Try-On allows glasses to be seen from the front and sides.

Amazon and other ecommerce retailers are continuing to experiment with virtual reality and 3D visualisations of products to combat unnecessary returns. We’re particularly interested to see when, and how, AI will come into play.
